                            Medical coding is the process of gathering useful data from a doctor's notes on a patient's medical history, including medical procedures, diagnoses, necessary medical equipment, and medical services. This data is converted into standard medical alphanumeric codes by a medical coder.

                               There are three types of universally known medical alphanumeric codes, which are mainly ICD, CPT and HCPCS. ICD Codes or International Classification of Diseases is largely used for the purpose of health recording and data collection, among other uses. These codes can classify symptoms, diseases, illnesses, and causes of death. For instance ICD code J21.9 denotes Acute bronchiolitis.
