How To Train For Medical coding
MEDICAL CODING.
Medical coding is the process of converting diagnoses, treatments, services, and equipment used in healthcare into standard medical alphanumeric codes. The International Categorization of Diseases (ICD) and The Current Procedural Terminology are two medical classification systems from which the diagnoses and procedure codes are drawn (CPT). Medical coding is used to standardize billing for medical services and to guarantee that bills are accurate and consistent.
ICD codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of published diagnostic codes set and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO). These are diagnostic codes which contains diagnosis and other abnormal findings on a patient. For instance, ICD Code M27.40 denotes cyst of jaw.
Jaw tumors and cyst sometimes referred to as odontogenic or nonodontogenic depending on their origin can vary greatly in size and severity. These growths are basically noncancerous (benign) but they can be aggressive and expand, displace or destroy the surrounding bone, tissue and teeth.
Generally, the cause of jaw tumors and cyst is not known, however some are associated with gene changes or genetic syndromes. The genetic mutation that causes the syndrome is inherited. Swelling, bone pain, numbness, tenderness, and unexplained tooth mobility can be symptoms. Treatment may be medical therapy or a combination of surgery and medical therapy.
